Kanlaon’s seismic, degassing activities continue
Kanlaon Volcano emits ash for 19 minutes, from 7:20 a.m. to 7:39 a.m., as captured by the Canlaon City Observation Station’s IP camera on November 1, 2024.

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 22 volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said aside from the quakes, Kanlaon continued to emit sulfur dioxide gas.

State volcanologists said the volcano spewed 2,946 tons of gas on Friday.

The degassing activity generated moderate plumes that rose 200 meters from the summit and drifted west.

Phivolcs said Kanlaon’s edifice remained inflated as alert Level 2, or increasing unrest, prevails over the volcano.

Last month, Phivolcs warned that persistent activities at the summit crater might lead to an eruptive unrest.

Entry into Kanlaon’s four-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone remains prohibited as sudden phreatic eruption may occur any time.
