BFAR: No fish kill in Pangasinan

Jasper Emmanuel Arcalas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — No fish kill has been monitored in parts of western Pangasinan, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) clarified yesterday.

"Latest monitoring results of BFAR in aquaculture areas in Ilocos region did not show any indication or likelihood of the occurrence of fish kill," the BFAR regional field office said in a statement.

It added that Ronald Eugenio, an aquaculture operator quoted in a news report, has also denied saying that there was a fishkill in Pangasinan.

Eugenio said he was only interviewed by a local radio station during which he talked about the effects of El Niño on fish growers.

"We ask members of the media to be responsible and circumspect in their reports as these can impact the fish production industry which is very important to the country’s food security,” the BFAR regional office said.
