Girl, 3, hacked to death in Lamitan

COTABATO CITY , Philippines — A three-year-old girl died and two other persons were wounded when a man went on a hacking spree in a secluded barangay in Lamitan City in Basilan on Thursday.

Sanaya Anjal died at the scene. Her mother Linda, 23, and grandmother, also named Linda, 51, were wounded, Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police director, said, citing a report of Lamitan police chief Lt. Col. Arlan Delumpines.

The suspect, Bonie Erang, 27, who was reportedly armed with a machete, barged into the house of the victims in Barangay Balagtasan and attacked the victims.

Erang tried to escape, but was arrested by responding policemen and village watchmen.

He was charged with murder and two counts of frustrated murder yesterday.
