Reintroduce Miriam to youth – supporters
MANILA, Philippines — Seven years after her death due to lung cancer, former senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is still remembered by the youth who supported her.
Santiago’s supporters hope the new generation can get to know her.
Santiago is best known for her wit and sharp tongue.
She was elected as an International Criminal Court judge in 2011.
Santiago would have turned 78 yesterday. Her family held a mass at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina to celebrate her legacy.
“It is important to reintroduce Miriam Defensor-Santiago to the new generation of young people because of her exemplary leadership and commitment to public service,” People’s Reform Party (PRP) and Sangguniang Kabataan member Rolando Dulay Jr. said in a statement.
Mark Lloyd Palma, another member of the PRP, which Santiago founded, said that when he missed the late senator, he would watch old videos of her on Youtube to learn.
Elvin Jerome Laceda, former Youth for Miriam volunteer and now national president of the Young Farmers Challenge Club of the Philippines Inc., said her teachings guided him to be a better leader.
