Baliwag cityhood plebiscite today

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is all set for the plebiscite today to ratify the conversion of Baliwag, Bulacan into a component city.

Comelec spokesman Rex Laudiangco said 108,572 registered voters from 27 barangays are expected to cast their votes from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are 200 clustered precincts in 26 voting centers in the town.

Laudiangco warned residents against campaigning, soliciting votes, engaging in propaganda within polling places and giving or accepting things of value, which are prohibited during plebiscite day.

The gun ban and liquor ban will remain in effect during the plebiscite period or until Dec. 24.

The holding of the plebiscite is provided under Republic Act 11929.

By authority of President Marcos, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin issued a proclamation declaring a special non-working holiday in Baliwag today.

Bersamin said the holiday aims to give residents of Baliwag the opportunity to actively participate in the plebiscite and exercise their right to vote. – Ramon Efren Lazaro
