Zamora is new Metro Manila council president
MANILA, Philippines — San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora has been elected president of the Metro Manila Council (MMC).
The MMC, which is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, is composed of mayors in the National Capital Region and the MMDA chairman.
Zamora was also named co-chairman of the Regional Development Council for Metro Manila.
“Thank you so much for the trust and confidence, my fellow council members,” Zamora said in a Facebook post.
“I am excited to take on these new responsibilities for the development of Metro Manila,” he added.
Zamora said he would focus on development, traffic as well as peace and order in the metropolis.
“While there may be times that the mayors do not always agree on issues, I want to assure the council members that everyone’s voice will be heard,” Zamora told reporters.
During his first term as mayor, San Juan was recognized as the first city in the country to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.
