MANILA, Philippines — A former vice mayor, his wife and their driver were killed in a gun attack in Dipaculao, Aurora on Monday afternoon.

Narciso Amansec, his wife Merlinda and their driver Leonard Calusa were in an Isuzu D-Max when they were attacked at around 5:10 p.m.

Initial investigation showed the victims were traversing the Baler-Casiguran Road in Barangay Dibutunan when their vehicle was fired at.

The three suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Aurora Gov. Christian Noveras condemned the attack against Amansec, who was her opponent in the May elections, and his companions.

“Walang puwang ang ganitong karumaldumal na gawain sa ating lalawigan. Madiin ko pong kinokondena ang pangyayaring ito,” he said in a post on Facebook.

Noveras ordered Col. Myles Angel Pascual, Aurora police director, to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.

“Kailanman, hinding hindi natin papayagan na manaig ang ganitong uri ng kultura,” he said.

Amansec served as a member of the provincial board of Aurora from 1998 to 2007.

He was vice mayor of Dipaculao from 2007 to 2010.
