Illegal firecrackers seized in Bocaue

BOCAUE, Bulacan, Philippines — Illegal firecrackers were seized in several stores in this town on Wednesday.

The illegal fireworks were confiscated during an inspection by representatives of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) led by Undersecretary and Consumer Protection Group head Ruth Castelo.

Mary Grace Reyes, DTI-Bulacan information officer, said three persons were apprehended for selling 11 types of prohibited fireworks.

Fireworks dealer Justina Gabuyo said many of the confiscated products have no Philippine Standard mark sticker.

Brig. Gen Matthew Baccay, Central Luzon police director, stressed that lighting firecrackers outside designated zones is prohibited.

Illegal items include watusi, piccolo, Poppop, five star, pla-pla, lolo thunder, giant bawang, giant whistle bomb, atomic bomb, super lolo, atomic triangle, Goodbye Bading, large-sized Judas belt, Goodbye Philippines, Goodbye de Lima, Bin Laden, Hello Columbia, Goodbye Napoles, Mother Rockets, coke-in-can, Super Yolanda, pillbox, boga, kwitos, kabasi and all oversized and overweight firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices, imported finished products, unlabeled locally made fireworks and firecrackers with other brands or names equivalent to those banned.

Butterfly, fountain, mabuhay, Roman candle, sparklers, trompillo and whistle device as well as jumbo, regular and special luces are the legal pyrotechnic devices.

Baccay said manufacturers and sellers of prohibited items would be penalized. -  Ric Sapnu
