Japanese fugitive nabbed for sham marriage

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A 63-year-old Japanese man wanted in his country has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for allegedly arranging a fake marriage between his compatriot and a Filipina.

Hiratsuka Masakazu was nabbed along Nicanor Padilla street in San Miguel, Manila by the National Bureau of Investigation Special Action Unit and the Mendiola police community precinct, according to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

Morente said Masakazu would be deported for being an undocumented alien after his passport was canceled by the Japanese government.

Masakazu has a pending arrest warrant issued by a Tokyo court on April 21.

Records showed that Masakazu allegedly conspired with other accomplices in facilitating the fake marriage of a Japanese man to a Filipina to allow her to obtain a residence visa in Japan.

Masakazu is being held at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pending his deportation.

He will be included in the BI blacklist and banned from reentering the Philippines.
