Magnitude 5.2 quake shakes Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Davao Oriental yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at around 8:56 a.m.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Governor Generoso, Banaybanay, Tarragona and Mati City in Davao Oriental and in Maco and Pantukan towns in Davao de Oro.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental, Lupon and San Isidro in Davao Oriental; Tagum City in Davao del Norte, Rosario in Agusan del Sur, Koronadal City and parts of Davao City.
The quake was felt at Intensity 2 in Kidapawan City, Makilala and Magpet, Cotabato; Tupi, South Cotabato, and Compostela and Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected from the quake.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said it has yet to receive reports of damage to property in the affected areas.
