Magnitudes 5.2, 5.4 quakes hit Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.2 and 5.4 struck off the coast of Davao Oriental yesterday morning.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quakes occurred five minutes apart, with the epicenters located around four kilometers from each other.
The magnitude 5.2 quake hit at about 4:08 a.m. The epicenter was 83 kms east of Tarragona town.
The second quake struck 87 kms east of Tarragona and was tectonic in nature.
Both quakes were felt at Intensity 2 in Tarragona, Manay, Baganga and Caraga towns in Davao Oriental and Intensity 1 in Digos, Davao del Sur.
Phivolcs said aftershocks were expected from the quakes.
