PNP tightens security at ports, terminals

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has beefed up security at terminals and ports with the expected influx of people visiting the provinces during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar directed unit commanders to deploy a sufficient number of personnel at transportation hubs to ensure the safety of travelers.

Despite the risks posed by COVID-19, Eleazar said people are expected to take advantage of the long weekend to spend time with their loved ones.

He reminded travelers to prepare the necessary documents for their trips.

Eleazar instructed unit commanders to monitor commercial establishments and parks, where people are expected to converge as cemeteries, memorial parks and columbaria are closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2.

He said police should ensure that minimum public health standards are observed.

The PNP chief said business establishments caught violating minimum health protocols face closure.

In Bulacan, 36 police officers and 706 force multipliers were deployed in strategic areas for Undas 2021.

Col. Manuel Lukban Jr., Bulacan police director, said police, motorist and traffic assistance desks would be put up near cemeteries, bus terminals and along the North Luzon Expressway. – Ramon Efren Lazaro
