Pangasinan expects over 2.1 million registered voters

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — The vote-rich province of Pangasinan is expected to have more than 2.1 million registered voters for the next year’s elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday.

Provincial election supervisor Marino Salas told The STAR yesterday that as of July, the province had 2.05 million registered voters.

“This does not include yet registrants in August and September as well as this month,” Salas said.

Due to the pandemic, the deadline of the voter registration has been extended from Sept. 30 to Oct. 30.

The registration will resume on Oct. 11.

Pangasinan has always been in the top five among provinces tagged as vote-rich.

This is the reason why politicians vying for national position always include the province in their itineraries during the campaign period.

Meanwhile, Salas said only a few candidates filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) in the local Comelec offices.

Salas expressed belief that politicians would flock to Comelec offices in the last two days of the filing of the COCs.

As of noon yesterday, no COCs for governor and vice governor had been filed.
