28 arrested for illegal gambling

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-eight persons were apprehended in Quezon City on Sunday as part of the city government’s campaign against all forms of illegal gambling, police said yesterday.

Nine of the gamblers were caught playing an online cockfighting match in Barangay Socorro.

Four were apprehended for playing cara y cruz, an illegal numbers game, in Barangay Sta. Monica.

In Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, four were taken into custody for playing an illegal cockfight at around 9:30 a.m. A fighting cock and cash were seized from them.

Eleven other gamblers were apprehended in other parts of Quezon City.
