MANILA, Philippines — Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe (Zamboanga City) and four of his family members have tested positive for COVID-19, he announced Wednesday.

Dalipe said that his father, former Zamboanga City Mayor Manny Dalipe, his wife Keenah, and his two daughters, Margaret and Baby Madison, all contracted the highly infectious respiratory disease.

“Five members of the Dalipe family are now bravely fighting the COVID virus. Please continue to pray for us as we also pray for everyone's health and safety,” the lawmaker said in a Facebook post.

At least 191 people who work at the House, including lawmakers and staff, have contracted COVID-19, according to the chamber’s tally.

The House is gearing up for a vaccination drive against COVID-19, with the chamber setting aside P50 million from its internal fund to purchase the shots.

House employees, reporters covering the chamber and five of their immediate family members would be first in line under the House’s vaccination program, while lawmakers would have to wait behind them. — Xave Gregorio
