MANILA, Philippines — At least 83 motorists, including one who name-dropped Cabinet officials, were cited for violating quarantine guidelines in Metro Manila yesterday.

Roy del Rosario was pulled over by police along EDSA in Quezon City for having blinkers and sirens on his sport utility vehicle.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its crackdown on non-essential travelers to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

When PNP deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar approached Del Rosario, the motorist claimed that he is a medical staff at the office of presidential adviser Carlito Galvez Jr.

Del Rosario also presented a certificate supposedly signed by Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año stating that he is a medical frontliner.

After a check with DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, Eleazar said the document is fake.

Police issued a citation ticket to Del Rosario and confiscated his gadgets and identification cards.
