NPA-Calabarzon intel chief arrested

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines  – A New People’s Army (NPA) leader in Calabarzon was arrested yesterday.

Lamberto Asinas, alias Baste, chief of the intelligence unit of the NPA’s Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee, was arrested by police and military personnel in Barangay Bunducan at around 9:30 a. m., Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., 2nd Infantry Battalion commander, said.

Burgos said a caliber .45 pistol, ammunition, a hand grenade, laptop, a cellular phone and subversive documents were recovered from the suspect.

Jonel Romero, an NPA commander operating on Negros Island, surrendered. He turned over an M16 rifle, a caliber .45 pistol and a handheld radio.

Another NPA rebel was killed in an encounter in Sitio Tonghol, Barangay Gabao in Irosin, Sorsogon before 8 a.m., also yesterday.

Six NPA guerrillas were arrested and three minors were rescued in Barangay Cuyago, Jabonga, Agusan del Norte on Monday. – Jaime Laude, Gilbert Bayoran, Ben Serrano
