Iwahig shootout ordered probed

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) will investigate a reported shootout between an officer of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the monitoring team of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan on Sunday. 

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra yesterday ordered  Undersecretary Deo Marco to investigate the incident that reportedly resulted in the lockdown of the penal colony.

Guevarra said he has yet to receive information on what triggered the shootout that occurred at around 9 a.m.

Marco said he instructed BuCor chief Director General Gerald Bantag to file an incident report tomorrow.
