Quakes rock Negros

MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes hit parts of Negros Oriental yesterday but did not cause any damage, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The first quake, measuring magnitude-4.7, occurred at 1:10 p.m.

Its epicenter was located 19 kilometers southwest of Pamplona town.

The quake was felt at Intensity 1 in Dumaguete City and Intensity 3 in Sibulan, both in Negros Oriental, and Intensity 1 in La Carlota City in the nearby proince of Negros Occidental.

Barely 30 minutes later, another quake, measuring magnitude-3, was felt in the same area. It was located 17 km southwest of Pamplona and was felt at Intensity 1 in Sibulan.

No damage or aftershocks were expected from the tremors, Phivolcs said.
