Paulate posts bail for graft, falsification raps

MANILA, Philippines — Actor and Quezon City Councilor Roderick Paulate yesterday posted a P246,000 bail bond on criminal charges against him in connection with the alleged hiring of ghost employees in 2010.

Paulate arrived at the Sandiganbayan yesterday afternoon, a few hours after the anti-graft court raffled off his cases to the Seventh Division.

The bail bond Paulate posted was P30,000 for one count of graft and P24,000 per count for nine counts of falsification of public documents.

His driver and liaison officer, Vicente Bajamunde, posted P222,000 bail bond for one count of graft and eight counts of falsification.

Paulate and Bajamunde posted bail even before the Seventh Division determined if there is probable cause to order their arrest and proceed with the formal trial.

The Seventh Division set their arraignment on May 25 after they posted bail.

Filed by the Office of the Ombudsman on April 20, the cases stemmed from Paulate’s alleged hiring of 30 fictitious or “ghost” job contractors from July to November 2010.

The ombudsman accused Paulate of falsifying job orders to collect – through Bajamunde – P1.1 million as their salaries from the city government.
