MANILA, Philippines — At least 100 families were left homeless when a fire struck a residential area in Las Piñas City on Wednesday night.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze broke out at the house of couple Rey and Amelia Tabuse at the Christ the King Subdivision in Barangay Talon 4 at around 11 p.m.

Arson probers said the fire reached the fourth alarm before it was declared under control at past 2 a.m. yesterday.

The BFP said the fire destroyed around 60 houses.

Authorities said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters encountered difficulty getting water from fire hydrants due to water service interruption in the area, according to the BFP.

The displaced families are temporarily staying at the nearby basketball court and barangay hall.
