UP Diliman shopping center catches fire

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED 9:56 a.m. ) — The Shopping Center at the University of the Philippines Diliman caught fire Thursday morning.

According to a tweet from the MMDA, the second alarm was raised at around 7:36 a.m. while the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was already on site.

More than 10 fire trucks have been deployed to take control of the fire while authorities are looking into the cause of the fire, the Philippine Collegian reported.

The BFP has declared fire out at around 9:29 a.m. Authorities are yet to find out how the fire broke out.

This is the fourth major fire in four years that occurred in the campus. The UP College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association Food Center and the Alumni Center were both hit by a fire in June 2015 and July 2015, respectively. The UP Faculty Center was also razed by fire in April 2016. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
