MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration is set to deport a South Korean fugitive wanted for years over violent crimes in his country.

Armed with a warrant of deportation, agents of the BI Fugitive Search Unit arrested Kang Bum Su, 47, in his residence in Villasol Subdivision, Angeles City, Pampanga on December 5.

Immigration Chief Jaime Morente said that Kang is subject of a summary deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners on Nov. 4, 2016.

Morente added that Kang was ordered expelled after the Korean Embassy in Manila informed the BI that Kang has a criminal record and has become an undocumented foreigner after the Korean government cancelled his passport.

It was learned that Kang was indicted for violating Korea's punishment of violence act and has a standing arrest warrant for on Aug. 25, 2015.

The said law punishes a person or group of persons "who commit violence and use deadly weapon that result in bodily harm to their victims," as stated in the BI's statement.

According to the immigration travel database, Kang arrived in Manila on July 24, 2011 and has stayed in the Philippines since then.

A group of Korean policemen is expected to arrive in Manila to fetch and escort Kang back to Korea.
