5 slain in shootout with Cavite cops

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines —An alleged gun-for-hire, his partner and his three cohorts were killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in Cavite before dawn yesterday.

Airon Cruz, with aliases of Toyo and Praning, the alleged leader of the Airon group, his partner Charlie Jean Dimapilis, 15, and three other persons who have yet to be identified died at the scene, Senior Superintendent William Segun, Cavite police director, said.

Segun said a manhunt is underway for three other suspects who escaped.

The suspects allegedly fired at policemen conducting Oplan Galugad in Barangay 30 Caridad, Cavite City.

Segun said Cruz was tagged in the killing of Rubylita Garcia, dwAD talk show host and reporter for Remate in Bacoor in 2014.

Man shot dead

Meanwhile, in Bulacan, an unidentified man was gunned down in Barangay Camalig, Meycauyan yesterday morning. 

A report reaching Camp Olivas said the victim was tossed out of a moving van near the Malhacan tollgate on the North Luzon Expressway and then shot several times.

The man is between 35 to 40 years old, wearing a denim jacket, blue undershirt and brown shorts. His head was wrapped in masking tape.
