Ex-Army major gunned down

CAMARINES NORTE, Philippines – A 52-year-old  retired Army major was shot dead by suspected members of a communist hit squad in Barangay Bibincahan, Sorsogon City Friday afternoon.

Arnaldo Manjares was shot in the head several times. He was declared dead on arrival at the Sorsogon Medical Mission Group Hospital at around 5:45 p.m.

Police said Manjares may have been attacked by members of the New People’s Army’s Sparrow Unit.
