DOJ seeks extradition of Fil-Am suspect in Zambales slay case

MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on Monday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) will ask the United States (US) for the extradition of a Filipino-American suspect in killing a woman in Subic, Zambales last July.

 

De Lima said the Philippine government has only 60 days left to submit a “full extradition request” for  29-year-old Jonathan Dewayne Viane, one of the suspects in the killing of 23-year-old Karie Ces “Aika” Mojica.

 

Viane fled the country boarding an EVA-air flight en route to Alaska on July 26, a day after the crime was committed.

 

De Lima said the Philippines requested for Viane’s “provisional arrest” last August 20 after he was traced in Iowa, US.

 

On September 4, the US authorities arrested Viane based on the Philippines’s request for “provisional arrest.”

 

Viane faces complaint for murder before the Olongapo City Prosecutor’s Office and remains one of the suspects in Mojica’s slay along with another suspect Nino dela Cruz, also from Subic.

 

Mojica was found dead in a dike in Sto. Tomas River, San Felipe, Zambales with three gunshots wounds to her head.
