'Pink' project opens along Quiapo-Cainta route

MANILA, Philippines - A bus company and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday launched the Board's Pink project along the Quiapo-Cainta route.

 

RRCG Bus Inc. joined several jeepney and UV Express operators which last month started volunteering to pick up and provide transport only to these special groups from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

 

The first unit of RRCG painted in pink driven by a bus driver wearing pink shirt started exclusively picking up and transporting only women, children, senior citizens and people with disabilities (PWDs) around 6 a.m. at the bus company's  depot in Taytay, Rizal.

 

"We are elated that RRCG Bus Inc. is participating in the PINK4 project that would greatly ease the burden of finding a convenient commute for women, children, senior citizens and PWDs who often have difficulty getting a ride during rush hours," LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said.

 

Last month, 14 public utility jeepneys plying the Pateros-Guadalupe route and 16 UV express vehicles plying the Trinoma-Tandang Sora route jumpstarted the project by picking up and transporting only these group of passengers.

 

"Ang Pink Bus project ay isang patunay na ang mga pampublikong sasakyan ay handang bigyan ng tulong ang ating mga kababaihan, kabataan, katandaan at may mga kapansanan na makarating sa kanilang patutunguhan at makauwi ng kanilang mga tahanan ng maayos lalo na mga oras na kasagsagan ang dami ng tao sa ating mga lansangan," Ginez added.

 

Ginez said the board is encouraging other bus companies to do participate in the program  to promote equal opportunities among passengers particularly to these special sectors.
