La Union village exec slain

SAN FERNANDO, La Union, Philippines – A barangay councilman in Bacnotan town was gunned down on Tuesday afternoon by motorcycle-riding men while seated at a waiting shed along the Diversion Road in Barangay Bangcusay here.

Senior Superintendent Ramon Purugganan, La Union police director, said Carlos Balanon, 51, councilman of Barangay Burayuc, Bacnotan town, died on the spot from a bullet wound in the forehead from a .45-caliber pistol. – Jun Elias, Raymund Catindig, Artemio Dumlao
