MMDA deploys 450 enforcers for Christmas rush
MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has deployed 450 traffic enforcers to facilitate the flow of traffic along the metropolis’ major streets during the Christmas rush, an official said yesterday.
The enforcers will complement the 250 police officers deployed by the Highway Patrol Group, MMDA Traffic Discipline Office director Crisanto Saruca said.
Meanwhile, the MMDA also reminded contractors of road projects that the moratorium on road diggings and repairs will start on Dec. 14. The suspension of road works for the Christmas season will last until the first week of January, the MMDA said.
However, priority road projects such as the construction of the Skyway 3 will not be covered by the suspension.
MMDA chairman Emerson Carlos added that the clearing of the “mabuhay” lanes or alternate routes motorists can take to avoid traffic on EDSA will continue during the Christmas season.
Carlos welcomed the proposal of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to lend soldiers and equipment to help clear the mabuhay lanes of obstructions.
He said the MMDA has still yet to coordinate with the military regarding the proposal.
