Student killed as gun goes off

MANILA, Philippines - A grade six student died in Caloocan City Tuesday after he accidentally shot himself with an improvised gun given to him by a stranger.

John Kenneth Enrile, 15, of Cayetano Arellano Elementary School went to a 16-year-old friend’s house on Fourth Avenue before lunch to show him the gun, police said.

As the friend went to the kitchen, Enrile continued to handle the gun. Police said it went off, hitting the boy in the chest.

The friend rushed Enrile to President Diosdado Macapagal Hospital but the boy was declared dead on arrival.
