Planas to receive award for late sister

MANILA, Philippines - Lawyer Charito Planas will receive an award today in behalf of her late sister, Carmen Lim Planas, from the Colegio de Sta. Rosa in Intramuros, Manila in commemoration of the school’s 252nd founding anniversary.
Carmen, who finished high school at Colegio de Sta. Rosa, blazed a trail in Philippine politics: she was the first woman elected to Manila’s city council, which she did at 23 while still a junior law student at the University of the Philippines.
Carmen also had the distinction of being the first Filipina governor of the Philippine Red Cross governor to be chosen as a delegate to the Red Cross International Convention of Governors.
