Man dies of heart attack while driving

- Nestor Etolle -

MANILA, Philippines - The last day of 2011 proved unlucky for a 57-year-old man who died while driving his overseas Filipino worker cousin to the airport yesterday morning, police said.

Singapore-bound Violeta de la Cruz told Police Officer 2 Jet Tajonera that her uncle, Amor Mario Ruiz, was at the wheel of a Nissan Sentra when he suddenly experienced chest pains.

Tajonera said the victim managed to park the car along Roxas Boulevard in front of the Manila Yacht Club before losing consciousness.

De la Cruz tried to flag down passing vehicles along Roxas Boulevard to no avail. Twenty minutes later, a motorist assisted De la Cruz and rushed her uncle to Ospital ng Maynila but Ruiz was declared dead on arrival.

Tajonera said though Ruiz may have died of heart attack, his body will be subjected to autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death.

De la Cruz failed to catch her flight.
