QC braces for All Saints’ Day activities

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano "SB" Belmonte Jr. has instructed the Central Police District and the city’s traffic enforcers to coordinate their efforts to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in major roadways leading to the city’s various public and private cemeteries during the observance of All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1.

The Mayor also directed CPD director Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Tor to deploy plainclothes policemen in bus terminals which are expected to be flooded with an exodus of passengers for the provinces to pay homage to their dead.

Belmonte assured the public that the city government is fully prepared to ensure peace and order and smooth flow of traffic leading to the city’s seven public and private cemeteries on Nov. 1.

Manuel Sabalza of the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety said his office will deploy traffic enforcers to help operatives of the CPD and the Metro Development Authority in maintaining the peace and order situation.

The mayor also mobilized personnel of the city’s cemeteries, headed by Emilio del Prado, to make sure that peace and order shall be maintained during the observance of All Saints’ Day.

The Central Police Traffic Management Unit’s "Oplan Kaluluwa 2001," a traffic management plan for All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day on Nov. 1 and 2 will involve not only traffic enforcement but also the removal of obstructions along the routes to the different cemeteries.

Wreckers and traffic accident investigators will be provided for all the sectors in coordination with the Central District Traffic Management Unit.

Traffic enforcers will be deployed starting at 4 a.m. on Nov. 1. They will be in complete uniform to help identify them to motorists as they try to control and prevent congestion in major intersections to ensure the safety of the people who will flock to the cemeteries to pay respect to their departed loved ones. The seven cemeteries in Quezon City are the La Loma Cemetery, Holy Cross Memorial Park, Parokya ng Pagkabuhay Cemetery, Novaliches Municipal Cemetery, Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park, Baesa Cemetery, Eternal Garden. – Jose Rodel Clapano
