Samsam slams rumors, says he’ll be seeking re-election

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu 1st district Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas confirmed yesterday that he will be seeking for re-election in the 2016 elections.

Samsam denied rumors, spreading within the City Hall, that there will be a swapping of vied positions between him and his grandfather, former congressman and city mayor Eduardo “Eddiegul” Gullas.

The rumors said Samsam, instead of going for re-election, will be running for Talisay City mayor, while Eddiegul will run instead for the congressional seat.

In his Facebook account, Samsam declared he wanted to continue the projects and programs he initiated during his first term as congressman, and that he will be “seeking re-election 101 percent.”

The rumored swapping came about when the regular session of the Talisay City Council was suspended and postponed, upon motion of the councilors, belonging to the Alayon Party of the Gullas’ bloc, due to a “very important meeting” allegedly called by Eddiegul himself.

Councilor Richard Francis “Choy” Aznar, an Alayon member and the Council’s majority floor leader, however said the rumors were unfounded but were plain intrigues sown to muddle the political scenario and confuse the public.

Aznar said the Alayon members of the Council only requested for a postponement of the session because of an important meeting among them. He however refused to elaborate on what kind of meeting was that.

Yesterday, the City Council’s regular session resumed. —(FREEMAN)
