CEBU, Philippines – A 62-year-old woman sustained injuries on her head and body after she was allegedly hacked by her own son in their house in Mandaue City last Thursday afternoon.

Marcosa Alinsunod of Purok Tambis, Sitio Dumpsite, Barangay Umapad was reportedly hacked by her son Ryan, 21, when she refused to give him money.

Police said Ryan, the 14th in a brood of 17 siblings, hacked his mother twice in the left side of her head and twice in her back. Ryan reportedly admitted that he was high on drugs during the incident.

“Nawagtangan tungod sa shabu ba. Nawagtangan sa akong kaugalingon (I was not in my sanity because of shabu),” Ryan said.

The suspect said he hacked his mother when she did not give him P10.

Initially, Ryan said he will use the money to buy cigarette. However, he eventually said he will use the money to buy drugs.

When his mother did not give him any, he took a 19-inch bolo and slashed her.

“Resulta siguro anang wa’y tug-tug ba, sige’g inom (maong akong gitigbas),” Ryan said.

After the hacking, Ryan said his siblings mauled him. He added he regretted hacking the victim.

Marcosa was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where she is recuperating.

Ryan’s sister, Lisa Paraiso, 42, arrested the suspect. Paraiso turned Ryan over to the personnel of Opao Police Station.

Prior to the hacking, Ryan said, he was living alone and was only financially supported by his older siblings as he did not have a job.

The suspect said he has a child to his former live-in partner who left him because he was using illegal drugs. Ryan admitted he started using illegal drugs when he was 16 years old.

Ryan is presently detained at Opao Police Station and is facing charges of frustrated parricide.
