CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza has congratulated the Babag National High School for ranking eighth among the 24 public schools in the city in the National Achievement Test for the school year 2011-2012.

Radaza extended her congratulations to the teachers of the school during the DepEd Night which was attended by all public school teachers last Saturday evening at the city auditorium.

Aside from the Babag National High School, Radaza also congratulated 21 of the 24 public schools in the city for the increase in their NAT scores.

Overall, the mean percentage score or MPS of public schools in Lapu-Lapu City in the National Achievement Test or NAT has increased from 44.76 in 2010-2011 to 48.05 this school year.

But while there was an increase in the overall MPS, Radaza said there are three public schools whose MPS had slightly dropped.

She  hopes the three public schools namely STEC, Pajo National High School, and the Poblacion Night High School will take inspiration from Babag Night High School, which now ranks among the top ten with a NAT score of 52.21 from 48.74.

In her speech, Radaza urged teachers to support their students  who have become online news reporters for the “Mactan Post,” the first ever LGU-run digital newsroom.

“The news site - news.lapulapucity.gov.ph  - will not only provide news and information and stories about the city, but also about the local government, the community and people.

“I told them to report about your school’s successes, activities such as your intramurals, nutrition month, Buwan ng Wika,” Radaza said.

Please support your students and pupils. Encourage them to submit stories about their schools and their community.

She thanked the teachers for their continuous support to the city’s tourism endeavor.

She said she was glad when she saw students and pupils lining the streets to cheer the 1,700 Iron Man athletes in July to providing entertainment to international visitors such as French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and just yesterday the wife of the ICT Minister and the delegates of the ICT Summit.
