Despite theft of lampposts Foundation to finish beautification project

CEBU, Philippines - The chairperson of the Cebu Beautiful Movement Foundation Inc. is determined to finish the multi-million beautification project “come hell or high water.”

CBMFI chairperson Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung said despite criticisms and seemingly little participation from the public, she is will continue what she and her friends have already started.

“Somebody asked me if I am discouraged. I said no, because the people who supported me are my strength and there is no amount of vandalism that will stop me from continuing,” she said.

Yeung, who is a businesswoman and philanthropist, was upset after learning that several lampposts among the 180 installed on Sanciangco St. up to the Capitol which cost around P10,000 each, have been damaged or stolen.

“I made a promise to the good people of Cebu that I will finish it come hell or high water. They cannot destroy our love for Cebu. We will continue to beautify it,” Yeung said.

The CBMFI has already completed 72 percent of its beautification project from Fuente Osmeña to Capitol and from Fuente Osmeña to Osmeña Boulevard.

CBMFI has raised funds which will be used for this project.

It conducted a Masquerade Ball last February that earned them at least P10 million.

The Cebu City government has no counterpart on this multi-million restoration project.

This beautification project includes lighting the tress, installing lampposts, and laying bricks on sidewalks. – (FREEMAN)
