VECO rewires two schools in July

-

CEBU, Philippines - Brighter classrooms, libraries, and school offices have enabled public-school students and teachers to perform better with the direct help of VECO's rewiring projects.

Some 1,300 students of Tipolo Elementary School in Mandaue City and 1,386 students of Jugan Elementary School in Consolacion and the schools' teaching staff have benefited from brighter facilities.

The project also answers the need to provide safe standard electrical wirings in schools to protect students and teachers and the surrounding communities from accidental fires.

VECO undertook an energy audit and upgrade of the schools' electrical systems and installed new standard electrical wirings and safe circuit systems to replace all the sub-standard lines. CFL bulbs were also installed to replace the schools' incandescent bulbs for energy efficiency and to cut down on power costs.

The company spent P227,470.60 on the Jugan ES project which was completed last July 1, and P416,644.20 on the Tipolo ES project last July 8. The projects were done in coordination with the Aboitiz Foundation, the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group of companies.

Since 2010, VECO had rewired seven schools including Garing National High School in Consolacion, Arcelo Memorial High School in Liloan, Cansojong National High School in Talisay City, and Pasil Night High School in Cebu City.

VECO is the second largest power distribution company in the Philippines.

It is jointly managed by the Aboitiz and the Garcia families in Cebu, the company's majority shareholders.

It currently has over 320,000 customers and serves the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, and Naga including the municipalities of Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and San Fernando. (FREEMAN)
