Eala soars to new career-high No. 17
CEBU, Philippines — Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala has climbed to a new career-high world ranking of No. 17 following her quarterfinal appearance in the 2026 Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan.
Eala moved up two places from No. 19 to No. 17, surpassing her previous career-best ranking of No. 18.
The latest milestone gives Eala a huge morale boost as she begins her campaign in the WTA 250 Hong Kong Open against American Alycia Parks today (Tuesday, November 3) at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium.
The 21-year-old pride of Quezon City is seeded No. 2 in the weeklong tilt.
“I’m super excited, and I’m going in with high motivation,” Eala said in a report by Agence France-Presse. “I’m trying to put my reflections off for one more week because of said motivation. Check back in a week.”
The Hong Kong Open is Eala’s final tournament of the season, which saw her become the first Filipino to capture a singles title on the women’s WTA Tour after ruling the Washington Open last August. — (FREEMAN)
