MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) extended its kudos yesterday to P-pop groups and Philippine tourism ambassadors SB19 and BINI, which received their Global Award from the Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino.

The award was given for the groups’ growing international presence and for bringing Filipino music closer to the world stage.

DOT Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay lauded SB19 and BINI for their representation of the country on the international stage “while remaining connected to the communities that shaped them.”

Angara-Mathay said SB19 and BINI’s selection as the tourism ambassadors of the country “inspires more foreign visitors and Filipinos from the diaspora to return” to help in creating economic opportunities for communities.

The DOT launched microsites for the P-pop royalty that feature the members’ dream destinations with tourism offerings.

Original Pilipino Music band Cup of Joe is also a recipient of the Global Award for its remarkable rise, achievements, concert success and increasing international following.

The Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino recognizes artists, music professionals and industry pioneers whose contributions have helped shape OPM.

Other industry honorees were Ogie Alcasid as recording artist, Gary Valenciano as concert artist, Jose Mari Chan as composer, Angee Rozul as recording engineer and Antonio Ocampo as lifetime achievement awardee.
