Water service interruptions set until October 3

MANILA, Philippines — Several parts of Metro Manila, Rizal and Bulacan are experiencing water service interruptions due to maintenance and improvement works.

In separate announcements, water concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad said the interruptions will last until Saturday.

Among the affected areas for Manila Water users are Marikina, Pasig, Taguig and Quezon City as well as Antipolo, Rodriguez and Taytay in Rizal.

“Manila Water is advising all residents of the affected areas to store enough water to supply their needs during the service improvement activity,” the water concessionaire said.

On the other hand, residents using Maynilad in Makati, Manila, Pasay, Malabon, Navotas, Quezon City and Obando, Bulacan will be affected.

“Affected customers are advised to store enough water for the duration of the service interruption. Maynilad has water tankers on standby, ready to deliver potable water to affected areas as needed,” they said.

El Niño

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public to refrain from hoarding food, water and essential supplies, as law enforcement units stepped up price monitoring and peace and order safeguards ahead of an anticipated “very strong” El Niño phenomenon.

Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PNP chief, issued the warning as climate models from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated that intensifying dry conditions could persist through the first half of 2027.

Nartatez appealed for community cooperation and strictly warned business owners and individuals against illegal stockpiling and price manipulation.

“We appeal to everyone to act responsibly and refrain from hoarding essential goods. Do not take advantage of the situation for personal gain. Let us ensure that food, water and other basic necessities remain accessible to communities,” he said in a statement.

President Marcos wants concerned agencies and all stakeholders to prepare for the impact of the very strong El Niño.
