Eid’l Adha holiday on June 6

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has declared June 6 a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed on Wednesday Proclamation No. 911, which noted that Republic Act 9849 declared the 10th day of Zhul Hijja – the 12th month of the Islamic calendar – a national holiday for the observance of Eid’l Adha with a movable date.
Following the 1446 Hijrah Islamic lunar calendar, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that June 6 be declared a national holiday.
Eid’l Adha commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim, known in Jewish and Christian religious texts as Abraham, to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of submission to God’s will.
