MANILA, Philippines — Undercover police officers will be deployed during the 38th anniversary of the EDSA people power revolution, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Plainclothes officers are part of their safety measures, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said yesterday.

“They will monitor the public to ensure that troublemakers are not mixed with the crowd,” he told reporters.

No serious threat has been identified but they will not let their guard down, he added.

Activities will be held at the EDSA People Power Monument and the EDSA Shrine. A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled at the monument on Feb. 25 at around 8 a.m.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. earlier said at least 8,500 police officers will secure the EDSA rites.

The QCPD will deploy 1,400 officers at the monument and other places of convergence, Maranan noted.

Officers will also manage checkpoints and traffic direction and control.
