House raises almost P50 million in Egay relief assistance
MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives has raised almost P50 million in relief goods and financial assistance for the victims of Typhoon Egay in Baguio City and Benguet.
Some P43.85 million of the amount came from the personal calamity fund of Speaker Martin Romualdez, raised partly from the contributions of friends during his birthday celebration last year. The fundraising was initiated by Romualdez, along with Tingog Party-list led by Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.
On July 28, Romualdez handed the cash assistance and relief goods to the camps of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Baguio City Rep. Mark Go and Benguet Rep. Eric Yap at the Baguio Central School.
“This came from our personal contributions and we hope that the other members of the House will come forward to help. This is only a small contribution, but we hope that it could provide relief to our countrymen,” Romualdez said.
