SAN FABIAN, Pangasinan, Philippines — A seven-year-old girl from Barangay Inmalog Sur in this town is the youngest coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) fatality in the province.

San Fabian Mayor Constante Agbayani yesterday said the girl was confined at the La Union Medical Center on March 26 and died on the same day.

Result of the girl’s test for COVID-19 was released by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine five days after her death.

Agbayani said Barangay Inmalog Sur was placed under extreme enhanced community quarantine. He said tracing of those who had contact with the girl is ongoing.

The provincial health office said there are 23 cases, including seven deaths, due to the flu virus in the province.

Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino III said he expects the number of COVID-19 cases to increase, considering that the province has a population of three million.
