MANILA, Philippines — State weather bureau PAGASA lifted storm warning signal in Batanes as Typhoon Liwayway (Lingling) started to move away.

But residents of Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands may still experience occasional gusts due to the southwest monsoon boosted by “Liwayway.”

The typhoon was last spotted 305 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes.

It strengthened again before dawn: the typhoon now packs maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour from the previous 120 kph and gusts of up to 160 kph from the previous 150 kph. 

Forecast to move north at 10 kph, “Liwayway” is seen to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Thursday afternoon and evening.

Between Wednesday and Thursday morning, residents of Batanes and Babuyan Islands will experience light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains due to “Liwayway.”

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rain showers during thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon.

Between Thursday morning and Friday, the trough or extension of “Liwayway” and the southwest monsoon will bring light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands and Ilocos provinces.

  • Friday morning: 720 north northeast of Basco, Batanes (outside PAR)
  • Saturday morning: 1,260 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes (outside PAR)
