MANILA, Philippines — The proportion of Filipinos who expect President Rodrigo Duterte to fulfil most of his promises slightly increased in the fourth quarter last year, a new Social Weather Stations poll showed.

Results of a December 16 to 19 SWS survey of 1,440 Filipino adults revealed 48 percent of respondents believe Duterte can make good of most, if not all, of his promises that catapulted him to the presidency over two years ago.

That was two points above the 46 percent recorded in the March 2018 survey and a recovery since it fell to a personal record-low of 35 percent in September 2017, or just after Duterte marked his first year in office.

Broken down, 13 percent said Duterte could fulfill “all or nearly all” of his promises while 35 percent said he could do “most” of them.

Meanwhile, 46 percent said the president could only accomplish “a few” of his vows while 6 percent said he would complete “none or almost none” of them.

“Those expecting PRRD to fulfill none of his promises give him a "Neutral" net satisfaction rating,” the pollster said, referring to Duterte’s presidential initials.

According to SWS, expectations that Duterte can fulfill "all or nearly all" of his promises surged by eight points in Visayas and by five points in Balance Luzon that cushioned the 10-point slump in Mindanao and one-point drop in Metro Manila.

Bullish outlook on the president’s ability to meet his commitments also rose in urban areas and among those who are very rich and very poor. But it hardly changed in rural areas and fell by three points among the “masa.” — Ian Nicolas Cigaral
