More than 500 Bar hopefuls fail to show up at exams
MANILA, Philippines — Out of the 8,701 who applied to take the 2018 Bar examinations, only 8,158 showed up for the first day of the grueling four-day exam on Sunday, November 4.
Supreme Court spokesperson Glesty Guerra, citing the Office of the Bar Confidant, said in a message to reporters that “8,158 took the Bar last Sunday.”
This means that more than 500 missed the first day of the Bar exams. Guerra later confirmed that those who did not show up would no longer be able to take the rest of the Bar exams.

Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo, who sits as chair of the 2018 Bar exams committee, led the preparations of the exams.
The Bar exams will take place at the University of Santo Tomas on the four Sundays of November.
It covers eight subjects: Political Law and Labor Law, Civil Law and Taxation, Mercantile Law and Criminal Law, Remedial Law and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises.
In the 2017 Bar exams, 7,227 law graduates were allowed to take the exam, but only 1,724 became lawyers, posting a passing rate of 25.5%. — Kristine Joy Patag
