MANILA, Philippines — Scottish actor Gerard Butler will be reprising his role from "How to Train Your Dragon" in the animated film's upcoming live-action remake.

Butler will once more portray Stoick the Vast, father of main character Hiccup, who will be played by "The Black Phone" actor Mason Thames. Hiccup was voiced by Jay Baruchel in the animated movies.

The only other confirmed casting is "Dumbo" and "The Last of Us" actress Nico Parker as Astrid, previously voiced by America Ferrera.

Filmmaker Dean DeBlois, who co-directed the three "How to Train Your Dragon" movies, will direct, write and produce the live-action remake.

The films, which collectively made $1.6 billion (P88.8 billion) at the global box office, are based on the book series by Cressida Cowell about a Viking boy and his dragon named Toothless.

Butler is best known for starring in the films "300," "P.S. I Love You," "The Ugly Truth," "The Phantom of the Opera," "Law Abiding Citizen" and the "Has Fallen" franchise.

The live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" is set for a June 2025 release.
