MANILA, Philippines — With the August inflation rate exceeding both government and market expectations, regular citizens of the republic are not the only ones affected by it.

Celebrities like Piolo Pascual, reportedly one of the country’s highest-paid actors and top tax payers, can also feel the crunch of price increase among commodities.

In an interview with Philstar.com during the recent press conference of Mega Sardines where he renewed his contract as endorser, the matinee idol said everyone is affected by the price increase of different products.

“I’ve like to think ‘yes,’ but I live a simple life,” he said. “Well I guess, because of the prices of commodities, of course, ‘yung mga kailangan sa bahay and everything is affected, and so everyone is affected by it (inflation),” Piolo said.

Marvin Tiu Lim, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Mega Global, the company behind Mega Sardines, admitted that their company and their products’ prices are also affected by inflation, so he is hoping that inflation would end soon.

According to a Philstar.com report, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said the Bicol region was hit by inflation the hardest with nine percent, followed by the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with 8.1 percent, and SOCCKSKSARGEN with 7.9 percent. National Capital Region, which includes Metro Manila, has a reported inflation rate of 7 percent.

As a result of inflation, another Philstar.com report said prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages surged to 8.5 percent, while transport costs spiked at 7.8 percent last month. — Video by Kat Leandicho
